i'm currently in the middle of cleaning out my summer wardrobe to make space for winter woolies. it also gives me a chance to weed out the worn out or dated pieces. i try to sort them into three piles "toss", "diy" and "keep". but im such a fabric hoarder most things end up in the keep/diy pile. wardrobe clean-up fail.
the first thing i refashioned was this little blue piece.
i bought this vintage skirt a few months ago from shimokitazawa at $3! the fabric was too pretty to pass off but i knew i needed to do something with it because midi length doesn't work for me.
first, i unpicked the waistband and removed the nasty old elastic. then ironed it straight.
then i left 2" on the top to create the band and drew a 7" line down both sides of the dress marking the arm holes.
then i serged the top with a zigzag stitch.
pressed and hemmed the arm holes.
made a casing for my ribbon using the 2" at the top of the fabric.
use a safety pin and string a satin ribbon through it.
p.s. the original le sac dress uses a jersey fabric ribbon which stretches and a little more comfy.
you're done!wear it in your favorite ways.. here are some of mine!
i like this fabric more than the original plain jersey fabric. its less see through and holds it's shape better.
which is your favorite style?
thanks for reading!!
i'll be linking up to craft parties here!
