let's talk mascaras...

if i were to be stranded on an island, my top three beauty things...
my concealer, my mascara and my chapstick.
actually that's all i use these days! applying make up slowly and properly is such a luxury i tell ya!!

i used to only use dior show mascara in rich black but it was pricey in japan!! so i started trying new ones!! here are my current favorites...

# 3 - imju fiberwig mascara

a japanese favorite that can be found in most drugstores in singapore. it promises to give falsies-like eye lashes. i love the wand applicator cos it fits with the curve of my eye lashes after i curl them so there is minimal smudges when applying. but when you smudge.. SUPER pain in the bum!! it does give you longer lashes but it takes a while to build up. i build it up slowly and it doesn't clump up to three applications. my favorite part about this mascara is the ease of removal! while it doesn't smudge easily even in the warm melty weather of singapore, it washes off like a breeze! no make up removal needed! perfect for lazy nights!! i used them more in japan because they were very inexpensive.. not impossible in singapore ($24) but just a little more!

#2 - urban decay cannonball

a girlfriend gifted me this mascara after watching youtube make up reviews - from head to toe. she's such a cutie and this is part of her holy grail make up products. (p.s. isn't HG such a youtube saying? i've never heard anyone talk about HG anything as much! :)) but jen's such a cutie and has such great make up advice so we were both curious to try! after giving it a go, i like it lots! it applies really nicely but im not crazy about the little applicator! it take a while to angle it but zero clumping at all. it does take a few layers to build up on the volume but its really natural and pretty!! its not super dramatic so its great for everyday application. it is very waterproof (ie even when i go swimming) but when i try to rinse it off with just my facial wash, it doesn't remove entirely! so not for lazy days!! with make up remover, no problem at all!

#1 - maybelline the falsies volume

this is seriously my favorite at the moment. firstly its so inexpensive ($18 in drugstores and often on 20 % off!) and it really works up the volume in one application. it is a little clumpy but that's what really add to the volume right? its waterproof even on warm muggy days and therefore not the easiest to remove without make up remover! there are definitely more sophisticated packaging than it's bright purple... but at that price, really couldn't fault them! i get compliments wearing this all the time. and sometimes give my lashes a swipe of this after i use the above two mascaras. as you can tell from the packaging, this is a brand new stick. i always have a backup of this!!

what are your favorite mascaras?
and have you ever tried other colored mascaras??

xx

  1. I've always wanted to try a fiber mascara! Must try it now it has your tick of approval ;)

The Diorshow blue mascara was an old favourite of mine, it was super striking in the right light and gave a lovely subtle "you've done something different but I don't know what" in dimmer lighting. Unfortunately I don't wear it frequently enough to be able to justify always having one on hand.

  2. I use the fiberwig. Most waterproof mascaras still tend to smudge on me so this is the best I found so far. Love how it just washes off with water. It's also fairly natural for day which I like. If I want to go more dramatic for night time I just use fake eyelashes.

  3. hi darling, i've been meaning to try all three but i've been spoiling myself with the cheap individual eyelash extensions here in seoul so haven't really needed mascara for awhile. shall keep it in the bookmarks for future reference. my holy grail mascara is majolica majorca's lash expander which is awesome for girls with stumpy lashes like me teehee.

  4. I use maybelline's volume express... it looks great but i always rub my eyes and it ends up giving me shadows under the eye :)

    The fiberwig sounds interesting.

  5. Hi Zhing, this is such a surprise post from you. I am all about mascaras and I've tried so many brands that I can't recall some. I use so much mascara that I'll be broke if my HG is a high end one. I've found many drugstore mascaras to work really well on me and I'm currently on my nth Maybelline falsies tube. I like Majolica Majorca for the comb too! My other go-to mascara for a light coverage is the ZA waterproof volume mascara. I WILL try the fiberwig!

I tend to splurge on other makeup products like blushers, eyeliners, lipsticks, concealers. My all time favourite brands are NARS, Bobbi Brown, Chanel and YSL Beaute. I'm into the Korean brands like Laneige too as I feel their makeup and skincare really suit the "Asian-ness" in my skin.

I love Jen - frmheadtotoe too! As well as Xteeener and beautifymeeh. I know Jen talks alot about the Canonball mascara but I am afraid to try cos I may fall in love with it and keep splurging on it. So, I'll stick to drugstore for now. Until I move to the US when everything is A LOT cheaper. ;)

    xoxo,
    Cher
