we are famous.

or something...

d's ex co-worker spotted us on a cover of a magazine in cambodia and shared it with us on facebook. (in case you didn't know, we used to live in cambodia for two years...) anyway, we were completely befuddled. firstly, what is heyhey? and secondly how did they get our picture!! i spent the night trying to figure out how. and feeling a little indignant cos it was our own personal picture. and most of all, guilty that poor blake (and his chinnychinchins and bursting diaper) and d are also involved as a result of my shared pictures on this blog here. what did the words say? "how not to hold your child?" or "why you should adopt a kid?" grrr... d tried to make me feel better jokingly said "maybe its for a mail order bride!"

wahahahha....

the next morning, his co-worker translated that it was a baby care magazine with no other pictures or mention of us inside. kinda crazy and completely random...

what are you meant to do about this?
and how do i stop it from happening in future?
any advice?

p.s. feel free to tell me that im a bit ridiculous.
but a tad bit creepy, don't you think?

xx

  2. Umm...I'd totally be creeped out! You're not being overdramatic at all, I'd be too!

I'm not sure what the laws are in Cambodia, but I do know that they shouldn't be able to just take your image without owning the licensing. Also, if this is a for profit magazine, you should be getting compensated for image use. Again, I don't know their laws, but as someone who has worked with a large magazine, a situation like this is not okay.

Sorry for the short rant :)
Hopefully you figure out how they got this!!!

  3. Ohhhh also...tips to prevent it from happening again :)

    1. Make sure all images you upload are in 72dpi. If you upload right from your camera, they are probably 300dpi and will allow for crisp printing. 72dpi = screen quality & will result in pixelated images ONLY when printed. So basically, if someone tried to print it, it would look really bad :)

    2. Disable right click from your blog. You'll have to insert a code into your template, but it won't allow anyone from right clicking & doing a "Save Image."

Hope this helps! Sorry, as a graphic designer, I'm not a big fan of image theft and try to prevent it in anyway I can :)

  4. completely agree with the tips above, especially re: uploading low-res pictures.

also, if your friend still has a copy of that magazine, get him/her to help you retrieve any contact details from it.. email add of the editor/publishing house would be particularly helpful. you should send the editor an email, letting them know that you hadn't previously agreed to the use of this personal picture and how you'd like the matter handled thereafter.

one of the mag's staff definitely visits your blog and they probably thought you'd never know about the use of this pic. let them know that this isn't acceptable, flattering as it might be. an email request from them would have been nice.

  6. Another thing you can do is to insert a watermark for your pictures!

  7. i think it's more than just being a little weird to see your own family picture on a magazine. but i suppose such things happen more often these days, because on worldwideweb. almost everything is accessible! did you try to approach the editor of the mag?

  9. It is a bit creepy. That's why now most images I have are either on IG or edited to within an inch to its life.

On a separate note, Blake is so big now. Time flies by too fast!

(ps sorry about the stats - my browser was acting all funny and not logging me in properly (>_<)
