our weekend and a little drama...

over the weekend, daniel raced in the green corridor run which was kinda interesting. the race started at tanjong pagar rail station and ended in bukit timah covering a distance of 10.5km that was meant to be lush and unspoiled greenery. due to the length of the race, we weren't able to be at the start and finish, we made our way to the finish line bright and early on sunday morning...

:: loving daniel means finding ourselves in such odd places at such odd hours ::

we had a few moments of silence (and some ant-bites) before the runners started coming in. it's always such fun to see the finishers and their running styles! and after, compare notes with daniel!! i asked if he enjoyed the scenery along the way but as usual he was so focused on chasing the next person in front of him that he hardly noticed anything else.

even though blake was asleep and the effort was probably wasted on him at this point, we felt like it was important to introduce this aspect of our lives to him. and hopefully one day he would enjoy supporting his papi or maybe even run a few races himself! how cute would seeing his fatty legs squeeze into a triathlon suit on a little bike.. *squeals*

and at his request, we popped into macdonalds for brekkie before heading back to town. unfortunately, that meant that most of the runners started finishing and the cab situation was complete mayhem. so we decided to catch a bus instead.

the bus headed into town was pretty filled on a sunday morning and so we were standing right up front with blake clipped into his sling. we were traveling along bukit timah road and out of the blue, the bus stepped on his emergency brakes to a complete halt and the entire bus-ful of people was thrown forward from the impact. it was a crazy pile up of people and all i remembered was climbing up and pushing everyone off us going "oh my god. where is my baby!?!" thankfully daniel held on for as long as he could and cushioned the impact of the fall. but there was so much chaos in the bus as everyone recovered from the shock and fussed over blake then he burst into tears. poor bubsie.

it was only after we checked him top to toe for any visible injuries that we learnt that the bus driver had to stop to avoid hitting a little child who accidentally rolled onto the road (!!) the driver checked that everyone was ok, we were given seats. blake calmed down and even managed to doze off. then we realized that we had a few scratches and daniel had a bleedy wrist. but we spent the rest of the journey in shock clinging on to blake.

just the thought that something horridly bad could've happened to our little baby (or someone else's baby) is unimaginably awful and gut wrenching. we were so thankful that other than a few little booboos, nothing terrible happened. truth is, we'd gladly incur all the cuts and aches so that little wide-eyed boy of ours is safe but it really shook our core and made us rethink his safety when traveling in his car-seat, our bike and his stroller. and then we spent the rest of the afternoon holding our babies tight in our arms.

anyway, we really appreciate the reminder!!
stay safe and hold your loved ones close!

xx

  1. Glad you guys are all fine and nobody else got injured! Riding on a bus can be quite cray cray. Sometimes, when the bus randomly brakes, I find myself clinging onto my dear life.
Yes! I"m a big fan of seatbelts in cars for both adults and kids/babies! It's an absolutely must! I've been saved by it twice!!

  5. Just read this today. Oh no what a scare, glad you are all (kinda) ok!

I am quite paranoid about Sean taking the school bus sometimes. The bus aunty always puts him in front coz he is so tiny but doesn't always put on the seatbelt for him (coz he is the last to be picked up and first to drop off). If the bus brakes suddenly, I am pretty sure he would fly forward. I have reminded her many times to put on his seatbelt (but I don't know if she really does) - Think after reading your story, I am going to remind her yet again!

    1. yikes that sounds like something to insist! we also started forcing blake to strap up in his car seat! he's not very comfy in it (cos i guess his backbone is not developed enough to sit for long) but after this little incident, we clip him in and let him fuss!

*hugs* to your little babies!! hold them close!!
