a book shower {and a special downloadable bookplate!}

to welcome little blake, my dearest friend jen from oh my omiyage (who is a party extraordinaire.. and i don't really call her dearest in person. i just added that in because it sounded right..) designed a little book plate for his baby shower..

and because we live in the tiniest of apartments, we asked for books to build blake's library in lieu of gifts. it was a brilliant idea we thought! cos we were both little bookworms and would love to raise a little reader.

isn't it uber adorable? she used a subtle yellow and grey palette to go with his nursery theme and a basic chevron pattern to match his little quilt! how thoughtful!
it was love at first sight! i immediately approved her first draft! :)

but in asian culture, its still taboo to ask for gifts so it has been a slightly awkward. when we do mention this request, our guests bring regular gifts AND a book.. which made us feel like bad greedy people. so we ended up not mentioning it to many people!! but i guess we'll keep this book plate for the little guy for life! so we'll build his library slowly!

any childhood favorites to recommend?

p.s. to celebrate this little project of ours, jen has kindly made a three bookplates to download if you'd like to start a library for your family or yourself! :) you can find it here! enjoy!

xx

  2. Such a cute bookplate! For my Buni's first christmas and her birthday I requested that in lieu of gifts that she also get books. Of course I was ignored, but at least her Ninang(god-mom) and one other friend listened and gave her a book. Thankfully, my Buni loves it when I read to her. Although, we are now at the stage where she asks to have the same book read all the time. Can't wait until she's reading on her own. I'm sure little Blake will love his books.
