in japan :: on the shinkansen

the husband's favorite mode of transportation in japan is by the shinkansen.
he feels like they're as fast as airplanes but with less fuss of check in time. and compared to driving, he saves on the effort of having to navigate. he can kick back and watch a movie.
also, muu gets to come along easily.

i love it for very different reasons!

THIS totally rocks my boat!

japanese train snacks are awesome! you get a huge selection of pre-packed nibbles ranging from traditional bentos (lunch boxes), onigiris and sake to little punnets of fruit, cheese and chilled beers and wines. of course there is a HUGE selection of sweets to choose from.
we got these panda sugar cookies in the cutest packaging!

evidently, i always go NUTSO with the snacks!
but what a fabulous start to a trip!!

  2. Ah, yet another reason to LOVE Japan! I remember being so impressed by the trains in Japan that I took a video of the train lady saying goodbye and bowing to the passengers as they were leaving and cleaning up after!!!

  5. Ohhh!!!!! I love their bentos and snacks too! AND the considerate fellow passengers eating them silently and without mess. The guy next to use last time took his eki-bento out of a plastic bag, folded the plastic bag several times into a little neat pocket, and stashed it away neatly in the seat pocket in front of him...while I stared at him mind boggled!

    1. did you enjoy a lot of inter-city travel when you were in town? :) they really do things differently in japan huh? i love how the onigiri packs is so efficient and they keep the seaweed separate from the rice so it doesn't get soggy! sooooo smart and thoughtful!

    2. Oh, i LOVE those onigiri! they are so smart. I am always ever so tempted to buy a pack of 20 when I go to Japan centre in london, but they are so very pricey and cling wrapping the rice and keeping teh seaweed separate then putting them together at the time of eating isn't that traumatic an ordeal xD

I did really enjoy the travelling! Wasn't the least bit stressful like I find it in other countries. It's so orderly and everything is so on time!
