on growing up...

we're not super duper with our finances.
we occasionally open our bank accounts to check on our spending...

{via}

today was one of those days...

d:: so this month we saved 50 % of our pay check.
z:: woah! is that a lot?
d:: its pretty good. last month, we spent .... (goes into this long rant on our stats, while i space out and type this post..)
z:: uh-huh...
d:: well. we don't look like we spent a lot but collectively it all added up. oh there. my bicycle!
z:: right.. THAT costed a lot. (hoping he won't notice my shoe shopping bill)
d:: oh well. i guess we're still saving.

and we move on.
oh well... at least we're super happy with our earthly possessions.

*sigh*

so, if you have any tips on how to keep a closer eye on expenditure and stuff like that,
please holler.
otherwise, we might find ourselves on the streets (with a fuzzy dog in hand) in no time.

xx

  1. 50% is pretty good. I'm definitely guilty of not looking at my finances and it's my shopping habit is something I'm trying hard to break as well...I save a bit, not not quite 50% so I'd love to get there!

    Well done you two...there's always enough to spend on a little treat or three! x

  2. Yeah?! They don't teach you real life skills like how much are you meant to save. We've spent our while lives wondering if we're overspending or being too cheap with things!

    Ps it was an isolated month! Our savings vary greatly on what we're up to!! ;)

    1. i guess jotting down every cent, in and out, is key! my mum's ridic good at it...i'm the worst. maybe try that and see how it goes after a few months? that's probably when you can judge how much your necessities are on average per month (and no, shoes don't count), which will help with budgeting.

      i'm so good in theory but terrible in execution!! haha :P

  3. 50% seems good, you pay rent. Supposedly you should have at least 6 months pay in the bank in case of rainy days. A year if you are kiasu :D

  4. 50% is awesome! Tips wise, I would suggest tracking your expenses for the next few months so that you can see where you're spending your dough and then working out a budget with a saving goal in mind. That's what we constantly trying to do but going out and shopping are our vices.

    1. online shopping is evil! i always indulge after a full day of real (store) shopping! which means we spend double, right??

      *sigh*

  6. 50% is good! my parents have always stuck by that policy their whole lives, even when they were earning the minimum wage when they were students and very poor, they still put half of it away and made do with the remainder. I am sure you can do it!

    If you need a hand with budgeting there are a couple of iphone apps. I downloaded Toshhl - I got the free version, you can input your input, output and set a limit! The graphics are cute too :)
