dear sweet sixteen...

i recently read an article in glamor mag inspired by the book called dear me: a letter to my sixteen-year-old-self. which got me thinking... what exactly would i say to the young me?

{braces aren't forever, chica!}

i don't have many digital pictures of myself then but back the days, i was a fab girl wannabe hidden behind geeky glasses, questionable fashion sense (i liked jumpsuits, midriff and mini skirts), disastrous hairdo i didn't know how to handle and a whole lot of ideas with no clue how to set them out. i was upset at my mediocre results, had a boyfriend and ultimate goal in life was to grow my hair out, wear contacts and be a dancer.

{p.s. i was 18 in this picture but still in my jumpsuits... lol}

maybe if i had the chance, i'd start with...

1 - your hair... you'd turn 30 and still not know what to do with that head of wispy brown curly hair.
2 - forget the boys and focus on the men.
3 - one day, knowing the lyrics to the musical theatre is gonna make your husband smile.
4 - you're going to miss living with your brothers one day.
5 - don't cry over friends lost. sometimes they come back to you when you don't expect it.
6 - you might not end up being a dancer. but man! that journey was worth its while.
7 - its not how you look but who are are that makes you special.
8 - read in the dark. lasik solves all problems.
9 - mum is not always right. but she really means the best.
10 - don't worry about chemistry. you'd never have to use it ever in life.

what would you say to yourself back when
you were young and sixteen?

xx

  6. I can definitely think of lots of things that I would love to say to my 16 year old self. I had braces and wore midriffs and mini skirts back then too. The mini skirts followed me through my clubbing days till I was in my mid 20s. Lol!

  7. I look at photos of my 16yo self and the only thing I do is cringe. What was I wearing then?? Denim with denim. What was I even thinking of?? Haha...

    Anyway, no. 8 is so true. Best decision I ever made. :)

  9. I really loved this post, it made me smile!

    I would tell myself very many of the same things (except not worrying about chemistry, i did actually need to get an A in Chemistry to get into university...past that I totally agree, it's so useless to me now).

    There's still a couple of photos of me at 16 creeping about on Facebook and it makes me cringe. I tried to untag them but someone retagged them and then they ended up actually being more visible in 'Photos of Jian' because they ended up being a lot more recent........embarrassing.

    1. MAN!!! A in Chemistry? i studied my butt off and got a B! and thought that was a miracle in itself! :)

      why do you have 16 yo pictures on FB? waitttt why do you have them digitized?? you must be so much younger than me then! my pictures only started being digital at 18! even then i think they are mostly scanned!!!
