day trip from tokyo:: kamakura

we had a few days leave due to golden week during mum's stay... so instead of cooping her in the apartment, we thought it would be a good idea to take a day trip. tokyo can be very draining after a while, the price you pay for living in one of the busiest cities in the world. so we wanted to so somewhere with a change of environment...

somewhere where the sun shines!!

it was children's day so some people were flying the koinobori (the koi kite) in hope that their children (mostly their sons) will grow up strong, energetic and fly high. they were a beautiful scene in the skies...

kamakura is known for their big sitting buddha...

kamakura is mostly known to the local as a beachy destination... there were surfer dudes, windsurfing and a tonne of tanned children running on the sand. it has been such a long time since we've dug our toes into the sand. and since muumuu is such a pansy, we let him off the leash and he had a ball leaping through the seaweed and weaving through our feet.. 

the locals here are also very keen on hawaiian culture and style clothes so there were adorable beach front stores selling the brightest and happiest frocks and beach gear! we felt like we were in a different country altogether..
