{for japan with love}

spotted this from one of my favorite bridal magazine - utterly engaged and i knew that its the least me and my little blog can do. its a cause very close to my heart and we are still keeping an eye on the news just in case.

a bit more information on ShelterBox

and in the allenders world:: my mum, aunt & baby cousin got on an earlier flight and are safely back in singapore and we have left tokyo just for the moment.

when we left, we kinda did with tails between our legs. apologetically making our exit. we've been trying so hard not to be "one of those foreigners" that bail and run at the slightest hint of danger. succumbing to the dramatization of foreign media and over-excited embassy warnings. and while its true that the spike in radiation is negligible,  and that tokyo is way out of the radius but we know for sure that in the past incidets these stats were based on, it has been one reactor with a problem and now we're dealing with SIX and maybe more. and we're in a foreign land with a language we don't entirely understand so news takes twice as long to get to us. and that one week later, they have not put a lid on the problem. and we both have parents who have been monitoring news for a week tirelessly and want us home. so we did our best. and moved further away.

the relief when we saw mum and people walking in the street is priceless. i might have even teared a little when i saw supermarkets stocked with food. i took little musashi for his first walk in a week this morning and the look on his face, chasing a duck. that was golden. that in itself is worth our walk (escape) of shame.

but with my whole heart, i would like still to do my bit in this project and will follow a day of silence (i'll follow US time).

  1. hey girl! u are not affected by the quake right??

  2. oh u managed to bring mushashi to the US?

    Stay safe!

  3. @peanut-toes

we felt it but we're not injured or directly affected. just worried about nuclear disasters so took the weekend off...

    love love!

  4. @kennytricia

not down south. but he got vaccinated so if we need to, we can kinda leave! :)

  5. all the best! it is a difficult choice re leaving. my partner and I were talking about it over the weekend as to the difficulties the expats have. this is the country that gave you what you have today but it's not your country after all -- tough one to reconcile so it's an admirable stance that you're adopting. :)

    keep well.

    with love from london

  6. was wondering when you would decide to leave... Even japanese are leaving tokyo, so I guess it's not a 'foreigner' mentality..

    take care!

  7. @la chamelle

thanks love. we think this is a better middle ground. our family here is supportive of this move and we don't feel like we're abandoning them behind in time of need.

  8. @June

it was unnerving to be in tokyo with the rolling blackouts, nuclear warnings and the tremors. it was difficult to live normally and we were all getting super stressed!

    we're ok here! don't worry!! :) xx

  9. Hey zhing, glad to know your lil' family is safe and sound out of tokyo. Kudos for staying put for as many days as you did. The tremors must have been nerve wracking...been following the aftershocks on TV and my heart goes out to those who have to go through the stress of every one of them. Take care and hope to see you in Tokyo soon.

  10. I'm glad you're safe.
You were the first ones I thought about when the news came out.

  11. @Salz

thanks sweetie! hope things are back to normal soon!

astrorain:: we are ok and thinking to go back tomorrow. the news have been sounding positive for the last few days and we're craving normal life!!!

leave me a little love note. xx
