crafts: under my christmas tree....

i know its a little tacky to write about gifts. but i'll make this a rare exception..

when the chengs/allenders do christmas, we go ALL out. no expenses & effort spared, anything you like you know you'll get somehow! i got gorgeous winter gear from UK, all the yummy american crafts, lovely twinkley jewellery, brand new candle collection, pinking shears, my favorite salad dressing, old bay seasoning for our seafood.. yummy stash!!! i was so so spoilt....

but of the entire loot i received this year, my favorite was my momma's hand-made quilt. i took a few pictures in anticipation.. but here's the end result!!

firstly, its essential to fill every corner of the apartment with scraps of fabric... :)

my living room ('cuse the mess...)

and in the kitchen, some serious matching business happens. this is more complex than suduku.its up to you how you like it but we like to mix up the colours and patterns well...

one whole night of chatting and patching later...

lay out the soft and smushy batting on the base and proceed to sew up a storm for the rest of the day!

when it was completed, my brothers decided they wanted their own version as well. i thanked her profusely for indulging in my random whims and fancies. she said "aiyar its ok.. as long as you see this and think of me and our christmas together, that enough.." *tear* so sweet.. thanks ma. i love it and will keep it forever...

tadah! :) my completed quilt and my little manja king!

p.s. can you spot a mistake? i think i goofed up when ironing the strips. bahhhhh...

that's all from my christmas tree spoils.. what was your favorite treat this christmas??

  2. Aww... a mother's love us the greatest!
I thought I'd make one little Clover but I'm terrible at sewing. Maybe I'll get my mummy to help me with a small one to fit her cot when my mum gets here in Jan :)

  3. Hey Jess, be careful with blankets k. It's not recommended to place any quilts or blankets in a newborn's cot cos of suffocation.

  25. am I the only one staring at the picture to figure out where's wrong? Maybe it's the white square at the bottom right? It seems like the odd one there.
And of cos that dog.. why don't you adopt that dog? It looks right in place with you guys.
