the single child vs siblings

feeling a little sentimental today because my brother got on a plane back to UK after a 2-week delay cos of the volcanic saga. BEST thing that happene ever. but funny no matter how many times the boys hop on the plane away from home, each time is as depressing as the first. oh well, he'll be back in 10 weeks so. and the cheng siblings will be in FULL force! so watch out world!!

meanwhile, daniel is blasting the house with "glee" soundtrack to cheer me up. check out this dude! not the first time i'm posting about him!! but this is one of my current favorites!!

on our first christmas together, daniel made me a CD of all my favorite tunes he recorded himself. by far the cutest present ever and he has not been able to top that in following years! but it totally cracks me up how thats very telling of his personality! for one, he played all accompanying parts on various musical instruments. doubled up the vocals himself, recorded it and edited it into one song. the outcome is very impressive but as my brother pointed out rather accurately it screams "SINGLE CHILD".

i mean, this is coming from a family of "let's play car! i'll be the driver, you'll be the seat and YOU (usually the youngest) will be the wheel! lets ROLL!!!" or "let's dig up mum's garden with a shovel TOGETHER!" or "didi's gonna date this girl! let's take a vote, everyone!!!". and even in this day and age, we'll roll up in bed, surf the internet individually together. ten minutes later, you'll find us crowding around someone's laptop laughing at mum's facebook account or watching failblog on youtube. meanwhile, daniel will be holed up in the room alone firing up all three computers doing this thing quietly!! guess thats ok! at least he doesn't cramp our style! :)

well, i love having my brothers around! and would never trade it for the world!

but im just curious to hear! do you come from a multi-child family or are you the one and only? does that change the way you behave?

  1. I have only one sister who is older than I am. I always wished that I had more siblings. B.T is the same - one older brother.

  3. i'm the youngest with two older sisters. i'm sure i was a lot more spoiled, but i'd like to think i'm better now that i'm older :)

  4. We all need siblings! My brother has been in Australia for the past 8 years and there never was a time since that I felt like an appendage has been removed from me since. And yes, tears always well up when he has to go back from his vacation in Singapore.

  9. ask daniel and he will disagree!! he reckons he did ok without siblings. grew up ok. and turned out ok!
i guess there is always two sides of the story! i think we grew up ok too! (maybe a little needy haha!!)
but i think you learn how to love from your siblings.

  10. haha yeah I guess looking at my students, it's those who have no siblings who have more tenacity and grit towards hard knocks in life...but they are mostly the boys! So yeah, girls tend to need siblings more than boys do sometimes. :)

  13. Yup! We're both the babies!
Hmmm, not really. His brother is a lot older than him. And I think boys and girls interact differently?

  14. how about a multi-sibling child that behaves like a single child because she is the eldest and the tyrant of the family? :) it's the best of both worlds

  16. i guess so! we blame all our differences on the "single child" syndrome. :) maybe its an exagerration! :)
maybe daniel is just more peace-loving by nature! and im just plain needy!

  17. hahah!! i guess maybe difference is a little good then.
im the fighter and daniel usually does his own thing. so throwing tantrums are really ungratifying and waste of effort.

  21. yeah. even if you win, there is no sense of satisfaction or victory!
but that being said, i've dated people who were first son as well. its a hasty generalization but woah. the arguements were neverending. always a struggle to see who wins/get to lead the troops... it was tiring.
