a little bit of korean in our house..

like most household who has recently traveled to the great land of kimchi, our fridge is stocking with pungent kimchi and a mountainful of flavoured seaweed. i munch on seaweed like its gum, tho unfortunately it does nothing good for my teeth or breath. but i think it dates right back to the days of hopscotch, zero-point and 20-cents packets of seaweed for lunch. but i digress...

one of the many things i've kept with me since i've lived on my own is my refrigerator staple - unsweet iced tea. me and noel used to have a iced tea maker that brews gallons and gallons of iced tea at a go. on hindsight, a little indulgent cos whats so difficult about putting tea bags in hot water, then throwing it into the fridge to chill. but as americans do, we had to have a smarty gadget that helps us streamline that process. she'd have it with fancy syrups, me plain or we'd throw in crushed fruit to make fruit tea. and we'd sit on our dingy patio and watch the world go by with our cat.. we felt like millionaires. us and our iced teas.

but year-round, my dear friend judybob would have her own version of iced tea in her home. my favorite being the roasted barley, roasted corn or the rice water that you sip after a meal. i simply love the taste of toasted grains in my water but apparantly, korean teas date way back and focus on medicinal benefits and the balancing of your inner energy. here are more varieties i found on the internet. the a whole world of teas out there and im merely balancing on the tip of the iceberg!!

this trip, i scored a 1-kg pack of this!! $4 from a local supermarket and was taught an easy peasy recipe to make my own corn tea at home! :) this should last me till my wedding, then the bobs are coming to visit with more!! :)

this is how they look fresh out of the pack, grab a handful and toss it into your kettle when its boiling. voila! :) instant corn tea! my puppy dogs absolutely love the leftover boiled corn bits which i add to their dinner. and it tastes great both warm and chilled!! (the tea, not the dog food, doh! )
